Railway workers will stop the British network with a three – day strike in June Railway industry

Railway workers are due to strike for three days in late June, a move that is likely to shut down much of the national rail network for a week.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) told members to prepare for strikes on June 21, 23 and 25 after a vote of 40,000 members last month saw Network Rail employees and 14 train companies voted overwhelmingly in favor of full-scale industrial action.

Union members in London will prepare for a new subway strike on June 21, in a coordinated move aimed at preventing possible job cuts at Transport for London and the national rail network.

The planned strikes, which begin on Tuesday and last until Saturday, cover the busiest days of the week for rail transport since the pandemic. They will take place during the week of two by-elections and will interrupt the journey to major events, including the Glastonbury Festival.

Neither network operators nor train operators have yet threatened with mandatory cuts, but have been told to find £ 1-2 billion in annual savings, with passenger numbers still well below pre-Covid levels.
