How your heart responds to exercise depends largely on whether you are a man or a woman, according to a new study funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Heart Risk in Young People (CRY) and presented at the British Cardiovascular Society conference in Manchester today. And older male endurance racers may lose the heart health race, as researchers at the Barts Heart Center at St Bartholomew, St George’s Hospital and University College London found that their vascular age is almost ten years older than their chronological age, while the hearts of athletes do not show such signs of accelerated aging.
