A 16-year-old boy is facing charges after allegedly threatening a student at Central Kings Rural High School in Cambridge, NS, on Monday.
In a press release, the Kings District RCMP said police received a call around 1:30 p.m. for a student who was threatened at the school. A photo of what looked like a gun was sent to the student.
The high school was blocked, and the nearby Cambridge and District Primary School was put in hold and secured.
Several police departments, including the Nova Scotia RCMP emergency response team and police dogs, gathered at the high school.
Police said in a statement that the suspect entered a store near the school on Highway 1 and left a backpack behind. The suspect was found with a different backpack during his arrest, and police said they found a copy of a gun inside.
The suspect was detained at about 2:35 pm, about two kilometers from the high school.
He has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and making threats.
He is due to appear in the Kentville County Court on Monday.
