Call of Duty multiplayer Modern Warfare 2 seems to be bringing back the core lineup of Call of Duty games. Modern Warfare 2 brings back the best parts of the remake for 2019 and adds to that. Here are my impressions of the multiplayer of Modern Warfare 2 from the review time in Infinity Ward (you can also read my first impressions of the single player campaign).
Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer looks just as good as the 2019 remake. It brings back all the basic basics that were great for 2019, and makes them better than this iteration. Gunsmith has been slightly redesigned to be more grounded in modern military elements, so players can now unlock “Platforms” that evolve the evolution of weapons. For example, the M4 platform can lead to the unlocking of the M16 or .45 SOCOM. So the platforms are really a “family” of weapons that cover different categories, such as assault rifles, SMG, LMG and so on.

As in the Modern Warfare 2 campaign, the multiplayer will include new and updated water physics and technology in the new maps. There are hybrid vehicles that will run on land and water and you can swim in the water through the cards. You can use pistols and knives while underwater, but if you shoot with a pistol, the speed of the projectile on the bullets will be slower, so there will be less impact, which means that more bullets will be needed to kill someone when you shoot from underwater.
In addition, along with the previous equipment in your facilities, there is new equipment that will also adapt to the new water mechanics. For example, when located in the water, the proximity mine will inflate a small floating device for itself to float to the surface and work that way. Similarly, there is new equipment called Inflatable Decoy, which mainly works as a lure dummy from Metal Gear Solid V, where it pops up and distracts the enemy. When this inflatable lure is thrown into the water, it will take up a swimming position with the weapon removed to adapt to the aquatic environment.
Players can now unlock “Platforms” that evolve the evolution of weapons.

Additional new equipment includes a tactical camera that you can throw on a wall or ceiling and it will warn you of enemies passing by, and you can even enter the camera to control it and search for enemies. The new Drill Charge works like the Magpie ability of Apex Legends or the Fuse ability of Rainbow Six Siege, where you throw a drill on the outside of the wall and it will pierce and throw a grenade in this room and this can also be used on vehicles. There is also new DDOS equipment that will let you know where there are vehicles and equipment nearby and will release an EMP charge to stop the devices.
There are basic basic game modes for testing these new pieces of equipment, but also two new game modes that are added for Modern Warfare 2: Knockout and Prisoner Rescue. Knockout is basically a shootout and basic multiplayer combined, where it’s a circle-based mode. You can revive your teammates, but if your team is eliminated, the round ends with your loss. The goal is either to kill the enemy team or to go to a breeding ground where the bag will fall and hold it until the timer runs out and if you survive, you win. Prisoner Rescue is basically a Call of Duty meeting of Rainbow Six Siege, where the breakthrough and clear goal is either to save prisoners or to protect themselves from capture by the opposite side. You can revive your teammates in this mode as well, but again, if your team is completely eliminated, you lose this round.
There are larger game modes for the lobby, which will include up to 64 players, but also have basic game modes with 6v6 lobbies. The new maps look clean and great, and as the campaign revolves around the world, the environment and locations are diverse and unique. The ping system is portable and configured to have more options for calls and communication. The sliding mechanics are also portable, but with an additional movement mechanic, diving, where you can tap double drag / squat and literally dive to the ground in something like a final move to get cover.
Modern Warfare 2 should be released on October 28 and the beta version will launch before the release date if you pre-order. Of course, Warzone will reflect the changes that the multiplayer shows some time after launch, but no date has been set yet. But what was confirmed was that Warzone is coming to mobile devices and more details will be announced later. The multiplayer looks great and I’m very excited to get some time in the beta when it comes out, because Modern Warfare in 2019 was a fantastic twist on the original iteration.
