Canadian singer Jacob Hogard is “disappointed” by Sunday’s conviction for his sexual assault case, according to his lawyer.
Hadley’s former frontman was found guilty of raping an Ottawa woman in 2016, but not of touching and raping a teenage fan that same year, and acquittal lawyer Megan Savard said Hogard was “grateful.”
“Although the verdict is not what Mr. Hogard hopes, we thank the jury for their diligence and attention, as well as for acknowledging that the evidence on some charges is too fragile and dangerous to support a verdict.” said Savard in a statement sent to CP24.
Savard said Hogard relied on his wife, friends and family for what she described as a “deeply challenging time” for the disgraced musician.
She also hinted that Hogard could appeal the verdict, saying the case was “far from over.” .
On Monday, Ontario Supreme Court Justice Gillian Roberts imposed tougher conditions on Hogard’s bail, given that “the prospect of a long prison term significantly increases the incentive to escape.”
As such, Hogard must live at his home in Vancouver or at another court-approved address and be home between 10pm and 6am. He must remain in British Columbia, except to appear in court in Toronto. He will be required to carry out regular inspections and random compliance checks. Hogard was also barred from contacting any of the applicants in the case.
He will have to abide by these conditions until the sentencing, which is expected to take place this summer.

Hogard, meanwhile, faces a separate charge of sexual assault causing bodily harm in another incident allegedly in June 2016 in Lake Kirkland, Ont.
Hogard has denied the charges and plans to plead not guilty.
“Mr. Hogard is looking forward to defending himself against the outstanding indictment,” Savard said.
