Last year, Nintendo managed to secure the imprisonment of Team Xecutor member Gary Bowser, who was accused of making the Japanese company lose millions of dollars through pirated devices and software it sold.
Judicial documents are already available, filling in some of the additional details related to the case in which Bowser was sentenced to three years and sentenced to pay extortion in cash as a fine.
The documents – which were discovered by Axios – suggest the first case of Nintendo to admit that it has released a new version of the Anti-Piracy Switch:
Nintendo had to release a new version of our hardware in response to one of these hacking tools, and this modification led to countless hours of engineering and tweaks to our global manufacturing and distribution chains and, of course, the resources involved. To be clear, these effects are a direct result of the attack of the defendant and Team Xecutor on our technological defense measures.
The statement, which was read in court, probably refers to the 2018 update of the base console Switch. Court documents say Nintendo claims that the process of updating the hardware and enforcing its IP address cost it more than $ 65 million.
