Zelensky rejects the host’s suggestion that Trump would have stopped the Russian invasion
Russian authorities have acknowledged the deployment of conscripts to Ukraine after Vladimir Putin denied recruiting.
Russia’s military prosecutor in the Western District said about 600 servicemen had taken part in the war in Ukraine, Russia’s Interfax reported.
Speaking to the Federation Council, Artur Yegiev added that “about 12 officers” had been punished as a result of the recruits.
The prosecutor’s office added that disciplinary measures had been taken for all violations and a decision had been made to dismiss “officials who committed these violations.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the stalemate on Kyiv’s battlefield with Russia and said the country was seeking to regain control of its entire occupied territory.
“We have already lost too many people to just cede our territory,” he said via video link to an event hosted by FT Live, adding that the stalemate was “not an option” for Kyiv.
“We must achieve full deoccupation of our entire territory,” Zelenski said.

Kyiv continues to demand the return of Azovstal fighters
Work continues on the return home of all captured Azovstal defenders, according to Kyiv’s Defense Intelligence Directorate.
“The process of returning the bodies of the fallen defenders of Mariupol is underway. To date, 210 of our soldiers have been returned – most of them heroic defenders of Azovstal, “Twitter said.
There is little information about the fate of about 2,000 Azovstal defenders. Kyiv wants to hand over everyone in exchange for prisoners, but some Russian lawmakers want some of the soldiers tried.

Biden steps up green technology to make US a “clean energy superpower” in the face of Putin’s war
Joe Biden’s administration has said it will use national security powers to boost the spread of clean energy technology, including solar panels and heat pumps, which it says will help its allies “in the face of Putin’s war in Ukraine.”
In a statement, the White House said “historic action” would reduce energy costs, create jobs and reduce exposure to the energy supply chain’s vulnerabilities.
“This move will stimulate local production, construction projects and well-paid jobs – while reducing energy costs for families, strengthening our network and tackling climate change and environmental injustice,” the statement said.

There is no excuse for Russia’s “brutal disregard for international law”, Merkel says
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Tuesday that there was no excuse for Russia’s “brutal disregard for international law”.
She added that when she was in office, she tried hard to prevent the situation in Ukraine from developing to its current state.
“It is a great sadness that it did not work, but I do not blame myself for not trying,” Merkel said of Minsk’s 2014 agreement with Russia. She spoke in an interview with German journalist and writer Alexander Osang, which was broadcast on ARD television.
The former chancellor also said she opposed the plan to admit Ukraine to NATO because she wanted to prevent an escalation with Russia, and Ukraine was not ready to join.

Chernobyl radiation detectors online again
Radiation detectors in the shutdown zone around Ukraine’s inoperative Chernobyl nuclear power plant are online again for the first time since Russia took over the area in late February, and radiation levels are normal, the UN nuclear supervisory body said on Tuesday.
“Most of the 39 detectors sending data from the exclusion zone … are already visible on the IRMIS (International Radiation Monitoring Information System) map,” the International Atomic Energy Agency said in a statement.
“Measurements obtained so far show radiation levels in line with those measured before the conflict.”
Russian troops occupied the site for five weeks at the start of the conflict, but later withdrew and the area is now under Ukrainian control.
Vladimir Putin’s forces have left a trail of destruction at the site of one of the world’s worst nuclear disasters, read more below:

ICYMI: US orders confiscation of two of Roman Abramovich’s private jets
A U.S. judge has given the Biden administration permission to seize two private jets owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich for violating sanctions.
Valued at more than $ 400 million (£ 320 million), the Gulfstream G650ER and Boeing 787 violated US export laws imposed after Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine in late February.
Under the law, aircraft made in the United States require licenses to fly to Russia from other countries. No plane received one before flying there in March, according to the US Department of Justice.
