Police are searching for at least three motorcyclists who are reported to be speeding and passing through traffic on the Pat Bay Highway north of Victoria before fleeing employees on Monday.
Investigators say the riders raced up and down Highway 17 from Saanich, British Columbia, to Sydney, British Columbia, around 7pm, sparking more than a dozen calls to 911 witnesses.
Saanich police arrived on the scene and tried to stop the escaped riders.
“[The] the motorcycles took off at an even higher speed, “a Saanich police officer told CTV News on Wednesday.
Police are now asking anyone who has a video of the riders to contact investigators.
“We ask the public to check the footage of their cameras to see if they filmed the riders, who made several laps up and down the highway around 7pm,” Anastasiadis said in a statement Wednesday.
“One of our employees managed to get a speed of 270 km / h on a motorcycle, which is an incredibly dangerous speed that put all road users at significant risk of injury that evening,” he added.
Motorcycles are described as red, blue and black sports motorcycles without visible registration plates.
Saanic police say there have been reports that riders may have visited the West Bank.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Saanic Police Department at 250-475-4321 or report anonymously through Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
‘Frustrated and disappointed’
Ron Kronk, executive director of the Vancouver Security Council, says the videos are unacceptable.
“I’ve seen all the videos and I’m telling you, it leaves me angry, frustrated and frustrated,” he said.
Kronk is a retired police officer and currently works as a motorcycle instructor. He says the videos have a bad name for motorcyclists.
“The motorcycle community is hated for such behavior,” he said. “It’s just a small minority, as far as I understand, and it just disappoints me.”
CTV News turned to the TikTok accounts that posted the videos. No response was received, and soon after, both accounts were deleted.
Motorcyclists in the videos may be subject to criminal charges, including dangerous driving, as well as speeding, stunting, street racing and driving without due care and attention.
