The Ide roundabout in the Alfington area of Exeter will be closed “predictably” due to a large truck fire. Emergency services are currently on the scene to deal with the accident that caused the closure of the A377.
In a Twitter update, a spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) confirmed that the roundabout remains closed as its cargo continues to catch fire despite all efforts and it is dangerous to reopen the road. In a statement on Twitter, a DSFRS spokesman wrote: “Unfortunately, the Ide roundabout near Exeter will be closed in due time due to a truck fire. Despite all efforts, his cargo continues to ignite and it is dangerous to reopen the road. Please find alternative routes for your trip. “
A Devon and Somerset Fire spokesman said: “We are currently dealing with a large vehicle fire right next to the Alfington roundabout. This is a truck with a trailer full of electrical waste. The cab is separated from the trailer. There is smoke and we advise locals to stay away from smoke and close their windows.

“The smoke is not currently affecting the A30, but there is heavy traffic due to the accident. Police and highways are on site to assist traffic. We have teams from Danes Castle, Middlemoor and Newton Abbott, along with a water tank from Dane Castle and an Dane air device. “
