After evaluation and initial treatment, the man was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Danny Baker, Sinn Féin West Belfast MLA, posted on Facebook on Friday afternoon about the incident, writing: “People, there was a serious Dunmurry Lane incident, PSNI is continuing its investigation.

“It’s close to Our Lady’s Queen of Peace Elementary School, and I’d advise parents to use the Twinbrook route and avoid Dunmurry Lane if possible.”

In a later statement, he added: “The local community is shocked by this attack, in which a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. I would urge anyone with any information to contact PSNI. “

A PSNI spokesman said: “Detectives are appealing for information following the report of a serious attack on a man in the Dunmore area on Friday, June 10.

“At around 12.55 pm, a report was received that a man in his 30s had been attacked in the Upper Dunmurry Lane area. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

“It is believed that two men carried out the attack and fled the scene in a red Volkswagen Golf.

“Our investigations into this incident are ongoing and we would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and has any information, including a camera or other personnel, to contact the 101 police, citing reference number 758 of 10/06 / 22. “
