A House of Representatives election commission investigating last year’s attack on the US Capitol held its first prime time hearing on Thursday night.

The hearing included unprecedented material related to the January 6, 2021 uprising, when supporters of former President Donald Trump violated the Capitol by attacking officers and destroying parts of the building.

Thursday’s presentation included a video of the attack, which has not yet been released. There were also recorded testimonies from Trump’s inner circle, including former Attorney General Bill Barr and former White House adviser Ivanka Trump.

The hearing was a broad overview of the commission’s findings, paving the way for further hearings to continue next week. Although the commission cannot bring charges against Trump, its central mission is to uncover the full scope of Trump’s unprecedented attempt to halt the transfer of power.

Here are some of the stories that have made a splash over the past week, as well as some photos that caught our eye.
