While studying ecology, Cindy learned about menstrual cups as a way to reduce the environmental footprint in 2018. After trying one herself – which took her 2-3 cycles to learn to use – Cindy embarked on a project. for a grant to North India to educate menstruating people about menstrual cups. However, the insertion process proved difficult for many people. Using her notes from the discussions she led, Cindy decided to create a menstrual cup applicator and presented the idea during an innovation competition.
Similarly, Drew learned about menstrual cups in high school and encountered a similar learning curve as Cindy when she first tried one. After learning about the environmental, financial and health benefits of menstrual cups, Drew presented the idea of a menstrual cup applicator during a business presentation competition in 2018. After winning the competition, Drew graduated, went to college and continued to develop her idea, which led her to meet Cindy, who was doing the same.
