Bethesda unveils Starfield with a 15-minute video

Bethesda today gave a first look at Starfield on the go with the “official unveiling of the gameplay” for their upcoming interstellar role-playing game. It really looks like Fallout 4 with spaceships, although a little less colorful than Fallout 4. Watch the 15-minute presentation below.

Starfield’s action takes place in 2330, presenting our little wizard as a researcher searching the galaxy for mysterious artifacts. We will explore big worlds again, do quests, level and unlock privileges, side with factions, gather resources, build outposts, build and shoot people, but this time we are not limited to one world. Game director Todd Howard said Starfield has over 100 systems and over 1,000 planets, and yes, we will be able to fly to them in our own spaceship, complemented by a space battle. I hope more of these planets and moons have interesting looks than the video shows.

It kills me that after years of waiting, Starfield’s great discovery opens up with the darkest and most boring planet, and then begins to gather resources. But I’m probably not the person to be enthusiastic about Bethesda’s modern role-playing games. They build huge worlds filled with careful decoration and NPCs, living on simulated schedules, but almost nothing interesting to do. That might be a good idea if Bethesda leans on it – I love walking simulators – but no, they’re full of repetitive quests, bad battles and obscene writing. Nothing is often better than this, and this frequent disappointment leaves me frustrated and bored.

Please tell me to shut up and explain why you’re excited about exploring space. Put me in the immersion tank of the fair and throw your opinion to the goal. I’m glad their games are so exciting for so many people! I am glad that their people are so happy! Maybe I’ll go take a dip in my bathtub, soak thoroughly in repentance for my tired and cynical opinions.

Starfield is set to launch in 2023 after being recently postponed by Skyrim’s anniversary. It will be on both Steam and Game Pass and yes, of course I will try it on Game Pass. I want to go to that lush planet with the giant armored space cow.
