To be precise, Britain will be hotter than Portugal, Jamaica, Costa Rica, the Canary Islands and Cyprus.
It would also mark the hottest day of the year, overshadowing the 27.5C (81.5F) record set in mid-May in Heathrow.
“We need to beat this comfortably on Friday and potentially surpass it or get closer to it on Wednesday and Thursday as well,” Mr Keats said.
The meteorologist added that hot flashes – three consecutive days of high temperatures – are possible between June and mid-September.
“We think it will be warmer than average at the moment with a growing likelihood of heat waves,” he said.
“So far this year there have been no hot flashes. The more likely it is, the further south or southeast you are. “
