A driver is charged during a traffic stop at Hilton Beach

The 57-year-old is facing charges after stopping traffic at the Hilton Beach over the weekend.

In a news release published today, Sault Ste. Marie OPP said the TIME team was on patrol at Hilton Beach yesterday when they saw a pickup truck turn off 548 Highway to South Street.

Police said the driver was known to have been fired.

Police then stopped traffic, and as a result, John Atkins, 57, of Hilton Beach, was charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited by the Penal Code, contrary to section 320.18 (1) (a) of the Penal Code.

The accused is due to appear before the Court of Ontario in Elliott Lake on August 4, 2022.

The car was towed and confiscated in 45 days.
