The commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces told his US counterpart that Russia is concentrating its main efforts in the northern part of the Luhansk region, in the eastern part of the country.

Valery Zaluzhny informed General Mark A. Millie, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, about the latest updates on the battlefield in Ukraine, he said in a publication in the Telegram on Sunday.

He also said that Russia “uses artillery en masse and unfortunately has a tenfold fire superiority”, but that Ukraine holds its position there.

Remember: Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine is at the epicenter of the conflict. Much of the region is already under Russian control.

East: Zaluzhny describes the situation in Luhansk as “complicated, especially in the city of Severodonetsk. There the enemy deployed up to seven battalion tactical groups. Despite heavy fire, we managed to stop the enemy.

North: Zaluzhni said that in northern and northeastern Ukraine, Russian forces “have resumed shelling of Kharkiv’s residential areas, which requires us to take adequate action.”

He also said that Russian forces were targeting Chernihiv and Sumy regions, using artillery and mortar fire, adding that “we are retaliating.”

Frontline: Zaluzhni said there was a front line of 2,450 kilometers (1,522 miles), of which 1,105 kilometers (686 miles) were in “active hostilities.”

He asked General Miley “to help us get more 155 mm artillery systems in the shortest possible time.”
