Prince Andrew will not appear in public at the Garters Day Service in Windsor today, a Buckingham Palace spokesman confirmed.
According to mirror UK, A spokesman for the palace revealed that while Prince Andrew will attend a private luncheon and investiture ceremony for new members of the Order of the Garter, he will not take part in the royal procession.
The spokesman was quoted as saying: “The Duke of York will attend the investiture and lunch today, but will not be part of the procession or service.”
The paper also reported that the decision to block Prince Andrew from the ceremony appeared to be a “family decision”; the Duke of York lost his military titles and HRH status after being accused of sexual assault and involved in a civil sex case earlier this year.
It is worth mentioning that the Queen herself will also not be part of the procession due to increasing mobility and health problems.
It is also reported that the public return of Andrew as royal king was lobbied by Prince Charles and Prince William, heirs to the throne, who persuaded the queen not to allow Andrew to participate in the procession.
Both William and Charles are said to have feared a serious public reaction to Andrew’s involvement in the royal engagement; he was last seen at a royal event at the memorial service of his late father, Prince Philip, in March.
