ASHBURN, Virginia – Washington Commanders’ successor Terry McClorin will not appear at the mandatory three-day mini-camp this week as talks on extending the contract continue, a number of ESPN sources have confirmed.
McLorin attended training earlier in the spring, but missed the voluntary OTA sessions held over the past three weeks. McClorin’s rookie contract expires at the end of the season. He is looking for a new deal in line with what the other top receivers have received this off-season.
After trading for AJ Brown on the first night of the 2022 draft, the Philadelphia Eagles signed a four-year, $ 25 million per season extension with Brown. Tennessee Titans have chosen Brown one round ahead of McLorin in the 2019 draft. McLorin’s base salary is $ 2.79 million this season.

Other broad receivers selected in the 2019 draft, such as DK Metcalf and Deebo Samuel, are also seeking a contract extension, but took different approaches with their teams’ minilamps last week. Metcalfe missed the Seattle Seahawks ‘mandatory mini-champions last week, while Samuel, who requested a change earlier this off-season, attended the San Francisco 49ers’ mini-champions.
Washington hoped McClorin would attend, given his role as team leader, even if he didn’t work. The commanders also want him to develop a relationship with the new quarterback Carson Wentz, with whom he has not yet worked on the field.
A player who misses all three days of the mini-camp will be fined a total of $ 93,085.
The 26-year-old McLaren is enjoying another productive season in 2021, despite Washington’s inconsistency with the quarterback. He finished with 1,053 yards – his second consecutive season at 1,000 yards – and five touchdowns with 77 assists.
Washington has remained optimistic all along about its ability to retain McLorin. Last year, the team signed a defensive match with Jonathan Allen for an extension and announced it just before the opening of the training camp at the end of July. Washington has set a similar schedule with McLaurin, although the receiver market has moved in the off-season direction few expected.
Like Alan, McLaren is a key figure in the franchise. He was prominent in the promotional materials for the season and after the team changed its name to the Commanders. A source said last week that McClorin had kept in touch with the team’s staff about what he wanted.
To help McClorin – and the attack – Washington chose successor Jahan Dotson in the first round. Commanders also have Curtis Samuel, who is retiring from soft tissue injuries throughout the 2021 season, slim Logan Thomas coming out of a torn ACL, and running back JD McKisick, among others, to help the game with passes.
