A CP Rail train crashed, causing a fire near the Manitoba-Ontario border

A derailed train near the Manitoba-Ontario border sparked a wildfire on Saturday.

The Canadian Pacific Railway derailed west of the Manitoba-Ontario border at about 4 p.m.

Firefighters, as well as officials from the Manitoba Wildlife Service, Manitoba Parks and the Environmental Response Team, were called to the scene east of Lake Cady.

The fire burned three hectares before it was extinguished. The crews were still on site Monday morning, finishing work, a provincial spokesman said in an email.

No one was injured in the derailment and there were no dangerous goods on board, a CP spokesman said in an email.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
