Amber Heard spoke to NBC News’s Savanna Guthrie on Tuesday, doubling her innocence and responding to many of the allegations made against her during the trial of her ex-husband Johnny Depp.
Referring to the verdict, in which Depp was largely the winner, Hurd said the process was “surreal and difficult. It’s been a long time. “
Asked by Guthrie about her words in court, Hurd said: “Until the day of my death, I will stand behind every word of my testimony.” However, Hurd also called the process the most humiliating and horrible thing I have ever experienced. I have never felt more distant from my own humanity. I felt less than a human being. “
Regarding the social media circus around the trial, Hurd said: “I think that even the most well-meaning juror… would be impossible to avoid. Every day I passed three, four, sometimes six city blocks lined with people holding signs reading “Burn the Witch,” “Death of Amber.” After three and a half weeks, I took the position and saw a courtroom full of Captain Jack Sparrow fans who were vocal, energetic. “
Referring to the UK trial that Depp lost, Hurd said: “There was another trial that dealt with the same important issues and there was even more evidence. In fact, my evidence was largely removed. “But Hurd said Depp’s victory came because” his lawyers did a better job of diverting the jury’s attention from the real issues. “
Asked about people watching the trial, who may think both stars are to blame, Head said: “I wouldn’t blame the average person for watching this and how it’s reflected, and I wouldn’t think Hollywood brats are the worst. But what people don’t understand is that it’s actually much bigger than that. This is not just about our rights to talk about the First Amendment.
She also added her own interpretation of the First Amendment, saying: “This is the freedom to speak the truth of power and this is all I have said. I told the authorities and paid the price. “

When Guthrie backed away, saying Hurd was talking about starting battles on recorded audio, Hurd said, “I know a lot of these audiocassettes have been made. They first leaked online after they were edited. What you will hear in these videos is not proof of what is happening. This was proof of negotiations on how to talk about it with your abuser.
Guthrie went on to read some of the transcripts, to which Hurd replied: “As I testified in court that when your life is at stake, you will not only take the blame for things you should not take the blame for, but when you are in the dynamics of psychological, emotional, and physical violence, you don’t have the resources that, say, you or I do with the luxury of saying, “Hey, this is black and white.” Because it’s everything else, but not when you live in it. “
When Guthrie asked about Depp’s denial that he had never hit her, and if that statement was a lie, Hurd said, “Yes, that’s right.”
Concluding the interview, Hurd said, “I made a lot of mistakes, but I always told the truth.”
In a video released yesterday from the interview, Hurd called for the widespread social media craze surrounding her case, calling it “unfair.” On social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, users clung to the case and posted posts mocking Hurd’s lawyers and her own testimony. Depp, on the other hand, was well received by many social media users, with the TikTok hashtag “Justice for Johnny Depp” garnering 20 billion views. The hashtag “Justice for Amber Heard” received 27 million views.
“I don’t care what anyone thinks of me or what judgments you want to make about what happened in the private life of my own home, in my marriage, behind closed doors,” Hurd explained. “I do not think that ordinary people should know these things. That’s why I don’t take it personally. “
She continued: “But even someone who is sure that I deserve all this hatred and aggression, even if you think I’m lying, still can not look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media was fair representation. You can’t tell me you think that was fair. “
A jury in Virginia found that Hurd slandered Depp in 2018 when she wrote a post in the Washington Post alleging she was a victim of domestic violence. The jury awarded the Pirates of the Caribbean star $ 10 million in damages and $ 5 million in punitive damages – reduced to $ 350,000, according to the country’s legal limit.
The jury also found that Depp slandered Hurd through his lawyer, awarding Hurd $ 2 million in damages for her counterclaim.
