Thousands of Calgary residents were without electricity on Tuesday afternoon as rain continued to flood the city with rain and wind warnings.
According to Enmax, communities in the city’s northeastern, northwestern and southwestern quadrants were affected in the early afternoon.
A statement from the company said that approximately 4,850 customers were without electricity at 3:30 p.m.
“Enmax Power has recruited additional crews to continue working to safely and quickly restore power,” an Enmax spokesman said in an email. “The number of customers affected is constantly changing as our crews work to safely restore power.

Signals of damaged power lines began arriving shortly after noon.

Enmax was able to restore power to some of its customers by working all afternoon to restore power.
Some of the outages were reported as “contact with trees” and the Calgary City Department of Transportation warned drivers that some power outages were affecting street lighting. Lights flashing red must be treated as four-way stops.
Enmax warns Calgary residents to stay at least 10 meters away if they see a power line down and report a website outage or by calling 403-514-6100. If the line sparks or is on the ground, call 911. If the power cord touches a tree, the service warns not to remove branches or trees from the wires, as electricity can pass through any object that touches the wire.

The Enmax Interruptions Web Portal has the latest reported outages.
The city company has a planned power outage in the Fairview community, which plans to replace a transformer. The outage was expected to affect 30 customers and was allowed 14 hours ago
Calgary Fire Department Public Information Officer Carol Henke said the CFD had had more than 20 calls about wind incidents, including downed trees and power lines. She said there were no reports of injuries.
Henke advised anyone dealing with damaged power lines to stay out of the area due to the wet ground and call 911 immediately.

Shortly before noon, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in Canada issued a wind warning, according to which strong gusts of wind up to 90 km / h are expected in the early afternoon.
“Wet soil from ongoing rain could lead to an increased risk of falling trees,” the federal agency warned.
“Damage to buildings, such as tiles and windows, can occur. Strong winds can throw loose objects or break tree branches. “

Telephone, television and internet services also had interruptions in some parts of the city.

Shaw said his internet, telephone and television services in Renfrew, Bankview and the Upper Royal Royal were shut down early in the afternoon.
Telus reported a telephone outage in Shonessy and an internet and television outage in other parts of the city.
