Ukraine’s National Guard has destroyed three of Russia’s multiple rocket launchers (MLRS) using M777 howitzers, according to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry on Monday.
MLRS, rocket launchers that are mounted on self-propelled vehicles, were destroyed in the area around Severodonetsk, a strategic city in eastern Ukraine. The country’s Defense Ministry shared a video with footage attributed to Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces on Twitter early Monday, showing aerial footage of Russia’s MLRS sitting motionless on a piece of land and then rising into smoke and flames. after being hit.
His intelligence, provided by the country’s special operations forces, allowed the National Guard to successfully destroy Russia’s MLRS, the ministry said. The video has more than 84,000 views at the time of publication.

The destruction of Russian weapons systems could signal progress in Ukraine’s counter-offensive around Severodonetsk, especially after Ukraine’s General Staff said on Monday that Russia had pushed Ukrainian units out of the city center “with artillery support”. After initially concentrating the attack on Kyiv, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces are smashing Donbass to the east, with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky predicting last week that a “fierce” battle for Severodonetsk could determine the region’s overall fate.
Newsweek failed to independently verify Ukraine’s report on the destruction of the three Russian MLRS. The Ministries of Defense of Russia and Ukraine have contacted for confirmation and comment.

Artillery has become a key factor in deciding whether Russia or Ukraine succeeds in the conflict, according to many Ukrainian officials. Vadim Skibitsky, deputy head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, told The Guardian in an interview published last week that the fighting had turned into an artillery war that Ukraine is at risk of losing.
Mykhailo Podolia, an adviser to the Ukrainian president, also said on Twitter on Monday that Ukraine needed “heavy weapons” such as 155mm howitzers, MLRS, tanks, armored vehicles and drones to win Ukraine in the war.
The American M777 howitzers are among the weapons the United States has sent to Ukraine. At a Pentagon press briefing last month, a senior Defense Department official said these howitzers had a major impact on the battlefield.
“You can already see how the Ukrainians are ready to go on the counter-offensive in Donbass [region]”They are returning some cities that the Russians have taken over in the past.”
However, Russia warned the United States last month against efforts to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine.
Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, said at the time that Russia hoped “common sense would prevail and Washington would not take such a provocative step.”
“We call for an end to the senseless and extremely risky introduction of weapons into the country. It is important to refrain from threats against us and allegations of military victory in Ukraine,” the ambassador said, according to Ukrainka Pravda.
