Shell’s garage cut off after robbery when van crashed into lamp post

Two cordons were laid after a cash robbery at a Shell gas station.

Merseyside police confirmed that at around 12.40 pm, officers received reports that two men had snatched a box of money from a security guard at Shell Station on Liverpool Road in Huyton. No threats or injuries are considered.

Shortly afterwards, officers received word that a white van had crashed into an Elmswood Grove lantern pole, a short distance from the robbery site, and that the cash register had been left on the road with coins in it. Surveillance and video surveillance are currently underway.

Passers-by at Elmswood Grove told ECHO they were “shocked” to see a police cordon on the scene Wednesday afternoon as officers were spotted talking to people at nearby properties. One person who has lived in the area for six years said it was a “usually very quiet” place to live and she was “surprised” to see police work, as it is usually a rare sight in the area.

Another passer-by added that she saw police officers “lined up” in the police cordon in the early afternoon and she was also surprised to see the cordon on the spot. A man who lives nearby said “there are usually no problems here”.

Many people passing by the “usually quiet and peaceful” area were quick to comment on their concerns, as they “hoped everything was fine”.

Chief Inspector Regiment Rooney said: “We are in the early stages of the investigation and want to talk to anyone who has seen the robbery and clash in Elmswood Grove. Please check your CCTV footage or dashboard for something that may help with the investigation. The smallest detail may be the key to finding those responsible and removing them from the streets. “
