Strong thunderstorm in force: Environment Canada

Strong gusts of wind, heavy hail and local heavy rains are the main threats, says Environment Canada

SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE CANADA ************************** Strong thunderstorms are in force for:

  • Agawa – Lake Superior Park
  • Sault Ste. Marie – the island of St. Joseph
  • Searchmont – a port on the Montreal River – Batchawana Bay

Conditions are favorable for the development of strong thunderstorms, which can cause strong gusts of wind, heavy hail and heavy rain.

Dangers: 90 km / h gusts of wind. Hail the size of nickel. Locally heavy rainfall

Time: early this morning.

Discussion: A pile of strong thunderstorms has developed over parts of the Agave, Chapleo and Gogoma areas and is expected to move southeast early this morning. The main threats are strong gusts of wind, heavy hail and locally heavy rainfall.

Heavy hail can damage property and cause injuries. Strong gusts of wind can throw loose objects, damage weak buildings, break tree branches and overturn large vehicles. Heavy rainfall can cause sudden flooding and accumulation of water on the roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when there is thunder, go indoors!

Clocks for severe thunderstorms are issued when the weather conditions are favorable for the development of thunderstorms, which can cause one or more of the following: hail, destructive winds, torrential rains.

The Fire Marshal’s Office and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
