Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (right) responded Wednesday to Elon Musk’s tweet earlier in the day, saying he was inclined to support DeSantis for president in 2024.
“I am focused on 2022,” DeSantis told reporters, who is rumored to be considering a White House bid.
“But for Elon Musk, what I would say is that I welcome the support of African Americans, what can I say?” He continued.
Musk is also white from Pretoria, South Africa.
Earlier Wednesday, Musk tweeted that he was voting for a Republican for the first time and was considering setting up a super PAC in support of centrist candidates.
He said he had voted for Myra Flores, a Republican who changed her traditional seat in the Democratic House of Special Elections on Tuesday.
“A huge red wave in 2022,” he wrote.
When a Twitter user asked him if he would vote for a Republican in the next presidential election, Musk replied “tbd” or will be named.
The user followed, asking who he was “leaning on.”
“DeSantis,” Musk said.
The technology billionaire, who is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, announced last month that he had struck a deal to buy Twitter, but has since threatened to step down.
Musk and Twitter are at odds over the company’s claims about the share of bot accounts in the platform, although Twitter has reportedly complied with Musk’s requests for additional inside information.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk was likely to reiterate his desire to buy Twitter when he spoke to company officials on Thursday.
Musk also responded on Wednesday to another consumer who said he supported Andrew Young for president in 2020, but now said DeSantis “has a better chance of winning.”
The Florida governor is the Republican Party’s leading contender for the 2024 presidential race. He won a straw poll at the Western Conservative summit earlier this month, with a slightly higher approval rating than former President Trump.
