Dragon’s Dogma 2 is officially under development and is being built on RE Engine

Capcom has officially announced Dragon’s Dogma 2, the sequel to the studio’s action RPG since 2012.

Hideaki Itsuno, the director of the original Dragon’s Dogma, announced the sequel to Dragon’s Dogma in the late 10’s live today. Apart from learning that the new game is being developed on RE Engine, we received no more information about the game other than the logo on the shirt worn by Itsuno.

Dragon’s Dogma is directed by Hideaki Itsuno of Capcom, best known for his work on Devil May Cry. Dragon’s Dogma’s focus on real-time battles in a dark medieval fantasy world intrigued fans, but it was the deep action system, AI-controlled allies and deep RPG roots that won many fans. Even when the series failed financially.

While fans’ hopes for a suitable sequel were dashed, Capcom’s high-profile leak, which shows Dragon’s Dogma 2 is in the works, has brought new optimism.

There was also hope after Netflix chose to introduce Dragon’s Dogma anime to its subscribers in 2020. In our Dragon’s Dogma anime review, we said, “The action and visuals are fantastic, but the meandering plot doesn’t match the show’s scope and grandeur.”
