O’Grady’s disappearance sparked a major deployment of police resources and public searches to find him.

Becky O’Grady, Brett’s wife, told the paper in October that the morning he was last seen was like any other morning. When she left for her shift as a nurse on the city campus of the Ottawa Hospital, Brett was raising their two-year-old son and preparing him for kindergarten. He left the boy in kindergarten, but did not show up at 4 p.m.

Friends and family later found Brett’s bike off a trail about a mile from his home. They also found his sweater, pillow and bag.

Brett, an accountant who was born and raised in Ottawa, was the head of the Shopify treasury.
