CNN political analyst Van Jones praised Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday for what he described as a “very smart” response to billionaire Elon Musk’s tweet, expressing potential support for the governor in the 2024 presidential election cycle.
Jones weighed in after CNN aired a DeSantis response to a tweet in which Musk said he was inclined to support Florida’s governor if he ran for president in 2024. The South African-born also said he supported Andrew Young. during the 2020 election, but “DeSantis has a better chance of winning.”
“So what I would say, you know, I’m focused on 2022, but with Elon Musk, what I would say is, you know, I welcome the support of African Americans. What can I say? ”DeSantis told a news conference, causing laughter in the crowd.
Musk, 50, was born in Pretoria and moved to Canada as a teenager before eventually moving to the United States. CNN’s New Day co-host Briana Kayler noted that DeSantis’ jester “may have gone through the minds of some people” who did not know about Musk’s South African roots.
Van Jones said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had “learned” from former President Donald Trump. CNN Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to run for president in 2024. AP
Jones agreed, saying DeSantis’ response was a sensible way to profit from Musk’s unwanted approval.
“Again, people think everyone in Africa is black,” Jones said. “Elon Musk is a white South African who came to the United States, so he’s a little annoyed.”
“But what he’s really doing is keeping this story on the news cycle. This man is very, very smart to make us talk about him, DeSantis, “Jones added. “And when the richest man in the world says something about you and then you say something funny, it keeps his name in the news cycle. This man has learned a lot from Donald Trump. “
Mediaite was the first to reflect on Jones’ remarks.
Jones’s praise for DeSantis came as new CNN leaders called for a shift toward less party coverage in the traditionally liberal network. CNN’s new president, Chris Licht, is reportedly following the leaders and personalities of the network to see who can stick to the change – such as those who cannot potentially be fired.
An example of CNN’s new direction was reportedly shown this week, when Licht informed top producers that he would have preferred it if they had not cited Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen as a “big lie”. Media.
Meanwhile, Musk’s support for DeSantis is the latest sign of his recent readiness to speak openly about his political views.

Musk predicted a “huge red wave” in the 2022 by-elections and revealed that he had given his first vote in favor of a Republican candidate while supporting Myra Flores in the special election for the 34th Texas Congressional District.
The billionaire said he had shifted his allegiance to the Republican Party due to growing left-wing distortions in the Democratic Party.
“In the past, I voted for a Democrat because they were (mostly) a party of kindness,” Musk said. “But they have become a party of division and hatred, so I can no longer support them and I will vote Republican,” Musk said last month.
