Reports of someone carrying a gun at a high school in East Vancouver upset students on Thursday morning, but authorities confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
Police blocked Killarney High School for about 90 minutes as they searched classroom after classroom, but officials said they did not find a suspect in the property.
This was the second incident in so many days that provoked an urgent reaction at the school. Authorities said two teenagers entered Killarney on Wednesday morning and released a spray of bears, sparking an evacuation that forced about 2,000 students to drop out of class.
The Vancouver Police Department sent officers back to the school on Thursday, along with an emergency response team, after receiving reports of someone armed with an unspecified weapon.
A Twitter user claims he was locked inside Killarney while officers searched.
“Hearing from friends that there is an intruder. The police are armed with weapons from outside, “the Twitter user wrote.
“The last few weeks at this school have been crazy. The fire alarm has been sounded at least 10 times in a month. Random mace attacks and now this. Beware, everyone.”
The block was lifted around noon. Authorities say they are continuing to investigate.
Wednesday’s incident saw two young suspects who were not going to school enter Killarney and try to attack a student, police said.
Nearly two dozen students and staff were contaminated by the bear spray, which was later used. Many students were taken to hospital, but only as a precaution.
Police say they have since identified the teenagers believed to be responsible for the incident.
