The Winnipeg Police Department arrested and accused a 43-year-old man of killing a 33-year-old man with a knife near the Pembina Highway on Wednesday.
Police were called at a signal for a man lying on the sidewalk in block 2300 on the Pembina highway on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
The victim, later identified as Wilbert Jr. Harper, was found to be suffering from a stab wound. He was taken to hospital in serious condition, where he died of his injuries. His death is the 25th murder in Winnipeg this year.
Floyd Alex Chartrand was arrested at a nearby home later that day. He is charged with manslaughter. He was also charged with non-compliance with a probation order and was wanted on a warrant for theft of less than $ 5,000. The charges have not been proven in court.
Chartran remains in custody.
Police say Harper and Chartrand knew each other and were involved in a dispute before the fight. Officials also believe that alcohol may have been involved in the incident.
