York University workers may go on strike on July 1

Thousands of York University workers could go on strike until Canada Day.

The York University Staff Association, which represents the administrative, technical and laboratory staff on campus, has been without a contract since July 31, 2021.

Although they have met with York University 25 times for talks, both sides remain deadlocked.

As early as April 29, York University requested the appointment of a provincial conciliator.

They then demanded a report without a board “in an attempt to bring the collective bargaining to a successful conclusion” on 8 June, after no agreement was reached again.

A neutral third party mediator is now meeting with both parties in an attempt to reach a successful conclusion.

From 1 July at 01:01, each country can legally leave work.
