REHOBOT BEACH, Del. President Biden fell off his motorcycle on Saturday as he tried to dismount in front of a small crowd of reporters and onlookers.
The president said his foot was caught in a pinch, which caused him to roll over after he stopped. He quickly recovered and stood up, saying, “I’m fine,” before answering a handful of reporters’ questions.
Mr Biden, 79, often rides a bicycle during visits to his holiday home in Rehoboth Beach, where he and First Lady Jill Biden spent the weekend. On Friday, they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.
The president was riding his bike in Cape Hanlopen State Park when he suffered the accident. He did not appear to be injured, and the White House said it did not need medical attention.
After answering questions about tariffs on Chinese goods and gun control legislation, he returned to his motorcycle and completed the trip.
Mr. Biden is just the last American president to fall on the public stage. In 1975, President Gerald R. Ford fell while descending the stairs of Air Force One during a visit to Austria. Nearly a decade later, President Ronald Reagan slipped as he boarded his plane. And Mr. Biden himself stumbled last year while boarding the presidential plane.
Mr Biden’s misfortune on wheels was also not unprecedented. In 2004, President George W. Bush had fun riding a mountain bike at his ranch in Crawford, Texas. And in 2015, John F. Kerry, then Secretary of State, broke his leg while riding a bicycle in the French Alps.
