F1 Grand Prix of Canada 2022 – Return to the backyard of Gilles
Follow the live coverage of F1 as the weekend of the Canadian Grand Prix continues with a third free practice and qualifiers tonight in Montreal.
Red Bull’s Verstappen topped the schedule in both free practice sessions on Friday, but was slightly ahead of Charles Leclerc in FP2. Ferrari is installing a new electronic steering system for Leclerc before FP2 – exceeding the threshold of two – which means that Leclerc is facing a lattice penalty for Sunday’s race and will have to rank near the top of the rankings to limit damage.
Mercedes struggled again as they tried to maximize W13 performance, with George Russell finishing FP2 in seventh and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton remaining in 13th place. Mercedes abandoned the redesigned floor concept they used on Hamilton’s FP1 car, with the 37-year-old describing the car as “unmanageable” on the team’s radio.
Elsewhere, Red Bull team director Christian Horner remains outraged by the FIA’s decision to introduce a new technical directive for Formula One designed to reduce injuries caused by intense guinea pigs. “You can understand that safety is the FIA’s main concern, but running a technical directive before a racing weekend without consultation is the wrong way to go,” Horner told Sky Sports F1. “It is very dangerous to allow the FIA to set the height of the weekend. It seems like a very complicated way to solve a problem that doesn’t affect all teams. “

Max Verstappen at the Grand Prix of Canada
Max Verstappen takes a pole position in difficult conditions in Montreal. Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz finished in the top three, with Lewis Hamilton placing best in qualifying for the season in fourth place.

The checkered flag is out and Hamilton took it. Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz are in competition on their last laps.
Verstappen scored 1: 21.299 and Sainz couldn’t catch him. He is in second place ahead of Hamilton.
