Max Verstappen made a double on the first day of running in Montreal, with the championship leader leading the schedule for the second practice of the Canadian Grand Prix.
Verstappen put a time of 1 m 14.127 seconds on the soft tire to lead the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, in second and third place with 0.081 and 0.225 s, respectively. It was another good session for Sebastian Vettel in Aston Martin, who finished fourth.
Fernando Alonso followed his P3 in FP1, finishing fifth in the session, ahead of Pierre Gasley in P6 and George Russell in seventh. The duo of McLaren of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo were closely matched in P8 and P9, with Esteban Ocon rounding out the top 10.

Non-optimal running with soft tires for Sergio Perez left him in 11th place, two places ahead of Lewis Hamilton in P13. It was another difficult Friday for Valteri Botas, who was battling a mechanical problem with his Alfa Romeo and was locked in the garage for most of the session.
