Waterloo Regional Police released photos of people they want to identify in connection with a couple shooting in Kitchener on Thursday.
In a press release issued Friday afternoon, police also confirmed that investigators believe the incidents are related.
The shootings took place within two and a half hours of each other, in two Kitchener neighborhoods about 8 kilometers apart. There are no reports of casualties in either incident, and police have not announced any arrests.
Police said the first shot was fired at around 12:30 a.m. in Belmont Avenue West and Carn Street. A resident of Belmont Avenue told CTV News that one of the bullets hit his car. He said he heard four gunshots in front of his door and saw a man running down his driveway as a white SUV pulled away.
Then, around 3 a.m., a second shooting took place near Fairview Park Mall. Police said that a car was also found at the time of the accident.
In new details released Friday, police said three men were spotted walking shortly before the shooting at 3:00 a.m., one of whom was wearing a bright hooded sweater. Investigators are now looking to identify these people and are asking anyone with information to contact police.
Thursday’s shooting – the ninth and tenth in the region so far this year – sparked a statement from outgoing police chief Brian Larkin.
“For those who continue to commit senseless crimes in our region, this must stop,” Larkin said in a statement posted online.
