8 am UPDATE: 2,500 homes and businesses are without electricity in the city of Belleville, mostly in the central and eastern parts of the city. Elexicon Energy expects all power to be restored by Friday night.
It didn’t last long, but many people will remember the storms that tore through the Quinte area on Thursday afternoon.
The storms moved after 3 pm, bringing torrential rains and gusts of wind.
At one point, in the midst of storms, roofing materials were blown from the roofs of at least three buildings in the Belleville Downtown District at the northern end of Front Street, those with Chilango’s Restaurant, Haus and Home and the Freedom Support Center on the other side on the street. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The branches of the trees were scattered everywhere and some large trees were completely uprooted. The damage was worst in the eastern part of Belleville.
Despite the damage, no tornadoes have been reported.
At the time of the storm, about 35,000 Hydro One customers were without power in the Quinte area, with the largest interruption starting north of Highway 401 in Belleville and extending upward through Maddock and Marmora. There were also significant interruptions in Quinte West, Brighton, Trent Hills, and Prince Edward County around Rosmore and Fenwood Gardens.
Several thousand homes and businesses in Belleville were without electricity.
While the crews worked at night, most customers had their electricity returned.

However, at 3 a.m. Friday morning, Elexicon Energy teams are still working in seven areas, all in the eastern and central parts of Belleville, where downed trees and branches have caused power outages.
In rural areas, meanwhile, most of the power has been turned on again, but there were still small outages scattered around the Quinte area and teams were working to reach each incident to assess damage and make repairs.
We hope that all the lights will be on again by noon on Friday.
