Weather in Edmonton: Thunderstorms and potential hail

An active and noisy night in Edmonton is looming, with storms likely to continue until early Saturday morning.

Thunderstorms with the potential for hail, heavy rainfall and potentially damaging gusts of wind are expected to pass through north-central Alberta at night and early Saturday morning. The risk zone includes the city of Edmonton and surrounding areas with several waves of storms passing through the north-central parts of the province late tonight until 8 or 9 am on Saturday.

This is not likely to be a constant storm throughout this period. Instead, as you can see on FUTURECAST, it has the potential to be several different storm cells. There is no guarantee that any or all of these storms will hit your neighborhood. But storms are likely to pass through or near Edmonton.

The risk zone shifts east and northeast by Saturday morning with even higher potential for hail and destructive winds in eastern central and northeastern Alberta from the Leudminster-Vermilion region north through the Lac La Biche-Bonnyville-Cold Lake areas.

Pay special attention to your local forecasts, as it is possible Canada for the environment and climate change will issue some tips for severe thunderstorms.

In Edmonton and the surrounding areas, the stormy weather should disappear from the area once we reach the middle by late Saturday morning. It looks like there will be some sunny breaks for most of the lunchtime and early afternoon. Then the risk of a torn rain or thunderstorm returns early in the evening (although this risk is not as high as a potential overnight storm).
