Employees of the Apple store in the suburbs of Baltimore held a historic vote this weekend, becoming the first in the company to unite in unions.
Apple retailers in Towson, Maryland, voted 65-33, nearly 2 to 1, on Saturday to seek membership in the International Association of Drivers and Aerospace Workers, the union said in a statement.

The vote could not be confirmed immediately by the National Labor Relations Council, which must certify the result.

Apple declined to comment to the Associated Press.
APPLE STORE IN MARYLAND DETERMINES DATE FOR UNIONS
The group, known as AppleCORE, or Coalition of Organized Retail Employees, revealed its intention to join in a union letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook earlier this month.
Trade union organization in various fields has gained momentum recently after decades of declining membership in American unions.

The organizers have worked to create unions in companies including Amazon, Starbucks, the REI open retailer and the parent company Google Alphabet.

In April, Amazon workers in a warehouse in New York voted to unite in April, the first successful organized US effort in the history of the retail giant. Workers at another Amazon warehouse on Staten Island overwhelmingly rejected a union offer last month. ‘
