Osaka withdraws from Wimbledon due to injury

Former world number one Naomi Osaka will miss Wimbledon due to injury.

The four-time Grand Slam champion has announced her retirement on social media as she continues to struggle with her Achilles tendon.

Osaka is a two-time champion in each of the Grand Slam tournaments on the hard court, the US Open (2018, 2020) and the Australian Open (2019, 2021).

Osaka’s best testimony at Wimbledon is the loss in the third round of Wimbledon champions in both 2017 and 2018. In 2017, it lost to five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams, while in 2018 it was defeated by a possible champion Angelique Kerber.

Osaka dropped to №85 earlier this year, but rose again to the Top 50 after reaching the Miami Open final in March, where it lost to №1 World Yoga Saint.
