It’s been a very long week. All week I was quite ill with COVID-19, which in my case was like a very bad cold with a lot of lethargy and headaches. Everyone seems to get it these days, but it’s much less deadly than before, thank the gods.
Anyway, we’re one day from Wordle’s birthday and two days to mine. Tomorrow is also Father’s Day, so happy Father’s Day in advance to all of you fathers!
Okay, let’s go. . . .
How to play Wordle
Wordle is a pretty simple game. First, go to the homepage of the game in the New York Times (this is not an app in the App Store or Google Play, although there are many simulators).
Wordle is free to play and has only minimalist ads for other NYT games, most of which are behind the paid wall, but worth the money if you like puzzles.
You will find six rows of five boxes. They represent your six assumptions. Type a word and press “Enter” and all the correct letters you get will appear in colored fields: green if it is in the right place, yellow if it is in the wrong place. If the box is gray, it means that the letter is not in the solution. Through the process of elimination, determine the answer with the sixth assumption.

Answer # 364 to Wordle

This is no longer an easy word!
My first guess was not perfect either. As is often the case, the faucet would have been better, but it still left me with many questions. I followed the blade (which left me 179 possible solutions) with a squawk and that left me with only one remaining solution according to Wordle Bot after the fact. I didn’t know it then, and I admit I was quite puzzled.
For a long time I tried to figure out what the word was, assuming “O” was in the second interval. CO_A_ seemed like a logical approach, but nothing answered. The only word I could think of was CONAN, and that’s a proper name (of a famous barbarian). When I finally thought about cocoa, I thought it would be wrong, but it might bring me another letter or two. (I knew it couldn’t be cocoa because it was the letter A).
I was definitely surprised when the answer came out! Cocoa is such a complicated word because it really sounds very foreign and the spelling contradicts the way we spell most words in English. It is also very similar to cocoa – as in hot cocoa, but also as in the beans that come from the cocoa tree. Indeed, cocoa is simply the unprocessed version, while cocoa is the processed version of that plant. So it’s a little confusing in terms of spelling and pronunciation.
But hey, victory is victory. Good Saturday, people!
