Manitoulin OPP tweeted at 8:30 p.m. that investigators were at the scene of a deadly collision in an area near Panache Lake Road.

There are two paths to Lake Panache – one in the Whitefish area, leading to the port of Penage Bay, and the other has access to the western end of Panache from Espanola.

Saturday’s collision involved an off-road vehicle traveling on an old railway bed that passed through the Espanola area, according to a source.

Carlo Berardi, a spokesman for the Northeast OPP, said more information would be provided on Monday.

The OPP usually identifies the deceased in a car accident, but only after close relatives have been notified.

ORIGINAL HISTORY:

One person is dead after colliding with a motor vehicle on Panache Lake Road, west of Sudbury.

“The area remains closed while investigators remain in place,” Manitoulin told OPP on social media. “One man died.”

No other details were released by police.
