Apple said it would evaluate the iPhone 14’s OLED displays this week before mass production

Apple is evaluating OLED displays for the iPhone 14 this week before mass production, reports The Elec.

The OLED displays in question are reportedly designed for the standard 6.1-inch iPhone 14, with mass production set to begin between July and August.

The displays are from Chinese display maker BOE, which was embroiled in controversy earlier this year after Apple discovered the vendor had secretly changed the circuit width of thin-film transistors on OLED panels for the iPhone 13. After BOE executives visited Cupertino, to solve the problem. In the case of Apple, OLED panels have been approved once again, not least because their presence in the supply chain is putting pressure on Samsung Display and LG Display to be more competitive and reduce prices.

The debacle with changes to the iPhone 13’s display is likely to limit the number of displays Apple orders from BOE to about five million. BOE hopes to receive Apple’s approval before the end of June, but the supplier is said to be a few weeks behind Samsung and LG. Despite delays with manufacturers in China, the iPhone 14 line is expected to launch as usual in the fall.
