Burkuitlam shooting sent 2 to hospital

Mounties in Coquitlam is investigating a shooting that sent two people to hospital on Saturday night.

The incident happened shortly before 19:45 on 565 Clarke Rd., Said in a press release of Coquitlam RCMP. The area is just steps away from Burquitlam SkyTrain Station.

People in the area told CTV News that they heard between five and 10 shots.

Several employees at a nearby cafe were packing furniture in the courtyard when a shooting broke out.

“In principle, we have just heard six shots. I think five or six. We didn’t really know what it was, so we just grabbed everything, ran inside and locked the doors, and we just hope it’s a car crash or something, because you don’t really expect to hear that, “said Maria Franca.

When police arrived on the scene, they found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds. The victims were taken to hospital for treatment and their injuries are not life-threatening, according to police.

Photos from the scene show a large police presence on Saturday night, with investigators focusing on a brown Honda sedan in the parking lot between Pizza Factory and Royal Bank of Canada.

“I heard a quick sequence of about eight to 10 shots,” Maple Lee told CTV News.

“It’s a little annoying, obviously, because we’re not sure if the person is still here or maybe this person is out at the moment. So safety, of course, is a constant concern. “

The gunman had already fled the scene by the time police arrived. No suspects in the shooting have been identified or located, police said

Franca said that if the store had closed earlier, she would have been even closer to the shooting.

“It’s horrible to think that I could literally walk to get on the train,” she explained. “I’m glad we’re all fine.”
