Commissioner Catherine Stone provides very limited details on the MPs under investigation, two of whom are currently in addition to Starmer and Lamy: Home Secretary Chris Phillip and Conservative Andrew Bridgen.
Mr Lamy’s belated declarations are said to relate to extracurricular gains for speeches around the month of black history last October, which were not declared until May this year.
It is also believed that the investigation will look at the trips made by Mr Lamy, who has been a Tottenham MP since 2000, to Tottenham Hotspur football club.
A spokesman for the 49-year-old Mr Lamy said: “David Lamy is serious about his declaration responsibilities and as soon as this was brought to his attention, he wrote to the Secretary for Members’ Financial Interests to apologize for administrative errors. his office, which led to late declarations in December last year. ”
“He assured the registrar that he had introduced revised systems so that declarations could be made in a timely manner. We are pleased to provide the Commissioner for Parliamentary Standards with any additional information. “
Understandably, as soon as the mistake was brought to his attention, Mr Lamy wrote to the Secretary for Members’ Financial Interests, apologizing for the oversight and the mistakes that led to a number of late payment declarations received for speeches last year.
Mr Lamy was highly critical of Boris Johnson when the Prime Minister approached Mr Stone to renovate his apartment on Downing Street.
In May 2021, he tweeted: “Boris Johnson’s defense seems to be that he has no idea how his £ 200,000 decoration bill will be paid. If true, how are we expected to trust this clumsy fool to run the economy of the United Kingdom?
This came after he appeared on his LBC show a month earlier, reminding listeners of the importance of the Nolan Principles of Public Life, saying: “(They are) a really important set of principles that should govern the way which I and others must behave in public life: honesty, openness, objectivity, selflessness, integrity, accountability and leadership.
“Of course we are interested in who financed the renovation of apartment № 10.”
In January 2022, Ms. Stone confirmed that she would not investigate the repairs after he was released from violating the Ministerial Code by his former standard adviser, Lord Hyde.
However, Mr Johnson was criticized by his colleague for not disclosing all the details of the funding.
