Queen Elizabeth II cemented her position as monarch with records this year as she celebrated 70 years on the throne – the first in British history to do so. Her platinum anniversary weekend earlier this month saw thousands gather in front of Buckingham Palace to show their appreciation for her work. Although she made several appearances, she was unable to attend all events due to ongoing mobility issues. Given her age, attention is focused on the next in line to the throne: Prince Charles and Prince William.
Reports for years show that the Prince of Wales wants to weaken the monarchy.
However, there are fears that he will not be able to withstand the queen’s standard as a popular and widely revered monarch.
This has led to speculation that Prince William – who is celebrating his important 40th birthday this week – could instead become the next king.
But even with it, there is uncertainty, as the monarchy’s popularity seems to be declining around the world, especially in the kingdoms of the British Commonwealth.
A survey in April found that nearly half of Britons believe Charles should step down in favor of his son.
Ipsos conducted a poll for the Independent, in which 42 percent of Britons said in favor of William to take the throne next.
Only 24 percent said Charles should not retire, and 29 percent said they did not have strong feelings about it.
Royal expert Jenny Bond said in April that “there is no chance” that William will become king, not Charles.
She described Charles as “the best-trained monarch we’ve ever had” who “wants the highest job.”
She explained: “The suggestions that the crown should be passed down by one generation are good, good. I do not think that William should be forced to take on this level of responsibility at a relatively young age.

“Charles is certainly the best trained monarch we’ve ever had. And he wants the supreme work, whatever Diana said, and she also told me that he would be happier to paint in Tuscany than to be king.
“But I think he really wants the job he’s trained for, and the fact is that the moment the queen dies, the king lives.
“Knowing Charles a little, as I have over the years, I have always said that I think he has the talent to be a very good king. He is a decent man, you know, he made an absolute mess in his first marriage and personal life, many of us did. It took a long, long time for society to forgive him. ”

Earlier this year, royal experts warned that William would face a huge challenge in trying to modernize the monarchy following Cambridge’s disastrous trip to the Caribbean.
They were met with protests in Jamaica, the Bahamas and Belize over the monarchy’s colonial past.
William issued a statement after the trip – which, of course, was not discussed first with the Queen and Charles – in which he said that the visit “put even sharper focus on issues of the past and future”.
