Ukraine sinks Russian ship with Western weapons News

Ukrainian forces destroyed a Russian ship in the Black Sea in the first successful attack using Western-donated Harpoon anti-ship missiles, British intelligence confirmed today.

Spasatel Vasiliy Bekh, a Russian naval tug, was delivering weapons and personnel to Snake Island when it was struck last Friday. The ship had the Tor-M2MK anti-aircraft missile system on board, but it is unclear whether it was transported to the Russian-controlled island or acted as the tug’s air defenses.

The Ministry of Defense in London said: “On June 17, Ukrainian forces said that for the first time they successfully used Western-donated Harpoon anti-ship missiles to fight Russian naval forces. The target of the attack is almost certainly the Russian naval tug Rescuer Vasily Bekh.

Harpoon missiles fly just above the water and have a range of almost 200 miles
