Moechella organizers have expressed their condolences over the deadly shooting in Washington, D.C., over the weekend celebrations in June.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragedies that occurred in the hours after Moechella on June 19, 2022,” GoGo, Moechella’s organizers, said in a statement on Tuesday. “We extend our condolences to the victims and their families affected by this senseless tragedy, and we hope for a healthy recovery of those affected.
The organization, called the Racial and Social Justice Organization in the DC Community, also said that the Moechella go-go festival has always been a peaceful protest, noting that its purpose is to address issues that are happening in the community. including gun violence, police brutality and DC statehood.
Long live GoGo also noted that gun violence is a constant problem in the city and said he would continue to push for “peace and equality” with his unique initiative.
The Moechella Go-Go Festival first drew national attention in 2019 as a protest after residents of U Street complained that go-go music from the District of Columbia was played outdoors, according to The Washington Post .
“Gun violence in the District of Columbia is out of control and we need to tackle this plague in our core community,” said GoGo. “The violence that has taken place is exactly what Moechella’s demonstration is designed to deal with and prevent.
“We will continue to represent the heartbeat of DC’s culture and push for peace and equality,” the organization said in a statement. “Let us continue to rise with each other and find ways to cope and activate the real change for peace and programming in the nation’s capital. And protect us. ”

A 15-year-old teenager was shot and killed in Moechella at the intersection of popular 14th Street and U Streets on Sunday when a gunman opened fire during a brawl at the Go-Go festival.
Authorities also said three other people, including an employee of the Sofia Police Department, were injured in the incident. Police Chief Robert Conti told a news conference that the Moechella event did not have proper permission to hold the event.
The 15-year-old killed in the Juneteenth event has been identified as Chase Pool, The Post reported.
