A female student was stabbed to death outside her university because she allegedly turned down a marriage proposal from a fellow student.
Naira Ashraf was attacked by a man when she got off a bus in front of Mansoura University in Mansoura, central Egypt on Monday morning.
The attack was carried out in front of terrified onlookers who tried to get the man out of Naira and in front of security cameras.
Naira was pronounced dead at the scene after receiving several neck wounds, local media reported.
The stabbing shocked Egypt with images and videos of the attack, which quickly spread online.
After the devastating incident, police launched an investigation and arrested another student at the university.

The suspect, named Mohamed Adele of the Egyptian Independent, is believed to be a third-year student at the same school as Naira.
In a statement, police said investigators spoke with 20 witnesses, including Naira’s family, who reportedly told officers she was “constantly harassed” by a man after their relationship broke down and her rejection of his marriage proposal was rejected. .
It is alleged that they reported the case and their concerns to the police two months ago.
Local police are believed to have detained Adele for four days while investigating the case.
Egyptian authorities have consistently been criticized by human rights groups for failing to protect women and girls.
In its latest report for the country, Amnesty International said the Egyptian authorities had failed to “prevent and investigate widespread violence against women and girls”.
