iOS 16 beta 2 adds support for iCloud backup via LTE and 5G

Apple has just released iOS 16 beta 2 for developers, and although we’re still not sure what exactly is new, the company has confirmed a subtle change that comes with today’s update. With the latest beta version of iOS 16, users will finally be able to back up their iCloud devices via LTE and 5G networks.

According to the notes for iOS 16 beta 2, the update allows iCloud backup over a cellular network for all users. Previously, iCloud backup was only available over Wi-Fi and supported 5G networks – but that required your carrier to give you this option.

Here’s what Apple says:

In addition to iCloud support for LTE and 5G archiving, iOS 16 brings several other new features, including a redesigned widget lock screen, advanced focus mode, iMessage enhancements, access keys, and more.

For now, iOS 16 beta 2 remains available exclusively to developers. According to Apple, the first public beta version will be released in July, while the official release is expected this fall. Testers still have to expect performance and stability issues when they launch the beta version of iOS 16 on major devices at the moment.
