iOS 16 beta 2 improves the filtering of SMS messages to iPhone users

Since Apple has just released iOS 16 beta 2, the company announced at the release of the operating system, notes some new features coming in Messages related to SMS filtering. Here’s everything new about this with beta 2.

Apple was already annoyed at the WWDC 2022 session that iOS 16 would add 12 new subcategories to the SMS filtering API. With beta 2, they are now available for use by developers. The company said that iOS 16 beta 2 “allows developers to classify incoming SMS from unknown numbers into 12 new subcategories in the categories of transactions and promotions to improve the organization.”

In addition, iPhone users with dual SIM cards can now filter their messages based on their SIM cards. They can choose to show “All lines” or only its primary or secondary SIM number.

With iOS 16 beta 2, Apple also said that for select US carriers, Messages is extending the “Report spam” feature to allow users to report spam to operators. The option is visible in Messages from unknown senders.

Last but not least, for Indian users Messages now supports retrieving events from SMS. These event and meeting messages are presented as Siri suggestions and are also presented to users in the message thread and in the calendar inbox.

Apple also admits a bug in Messages on iOS 16 beta 2:
